Wow, what started on a slop or
An uphill top,
It was said, “Take it all, if you will!”
When people penned out,
With the White man’s quill
Native Americans has the land,
So we gave them smallpox
Till they died away, to conquer with—
With alcohol and weapons
We called them ‘savages’,
It was our battle cry!
For which we stood
Believing in our own lies…
We started a Civil War
To liberate the Black man—
We called them ‘soulless’
As we thumped with Bibles, in hand!
On one way, there we took command…
We developed economy
With the locomotion—
Called ourselves saviors for the land of the free…
We started wars to gain
Territory and build Empire
As the ways of man couldn’t deny!
20th Century came
And we gave women’s right to vote—
To send them from ‘baby factories’ to factories
In the First World War,
To make for us, all those wonderful bank notes!
People died in vain,
As we went to Cuba, Haiti
Or Santo Domingo with
The United Fruit to sponsor
Brutal dictators for the American Empire…
Came the swinging 20s
And Prohibition with its hypocrisy
And the lies, feeling like those
Makes me want to cry!
1930s gave us poverty and repression
For World War II—who could deny?
It was the development of Hollywood…
A simple time and after,
Did we start to decline?
We grew in our own legends,
As heroes and liberators,
And there wasn’t a war we couldn’t lose,
Till Vietnam and Korea
There we chose the final stand…
Then and when we started killing our greats:
Kennedy, King and Bobby…
Taking narcotics and becoming obese
In our frugal ways, we created our own disease…
Then there’s the question “Was there a need?”
1970s came with OPEC
Everything of sentimental value
Forgotten for the oil hunger—
Causing our problems, with a disease,
Today we call it, the Middle East!
Reagan came and sold away
Our quality of life,
To the rich bankers,
It was done with such delight,
Though it was hurting us in spite!
People began making less money,
But there were Clinton’s as a distraction,
Him poking Monica
With the cigar and black dress,
As a slut for the ages—
Money became our hero
And we forgot our ethics
Without a moral stand,
This was our command!
As Iraq II came
With the consequences of 9-11
For what we had done—
Monsters we made
To continue our quality of life
Evil made the country certainly ‘undone’….
The bankers took our money and home,
As Obama was elected
Instead of Bush,
Things and habits repeated
Began growing old!
For our arrogance
We inherited a falling Empire,
We should’ve listened to the Romans
Or Nostradamus that they came and foretold!
This American Empire of ours
Is the land of the free!
We cannot forget who we are
A land of democracy and 1,000 ethnicities…
Never to forget,
We become better with justice
A true nation as one and people
United We Stand…
