What has made the growth of Muslim extremism travel across our world? In many ways, it has to do with history. The painful truth has constituted in our past-savagery of colonialism, subsequent invasions done by powerful European Nations and U.S. in the Middle East, and not allowing properly the incorporation of Muslim cultures into Western society. For the exception of the United States, that tries to integrate newcomers as best they can into American society (Anderson Copper, CNN, 2015). European nations haven’t doing such a good job! Creating in the Muslim world forms of subsequent hatred…
And we could ‘pass the torch or do the blame game’ all day! Where would it lead us? Nowhere… When extremist are fostering more and more hate, radicalism and terrorism around the world. However, they have attacked the fiber of developed and developing countries! Mentioning the worse attacks in history in the last past 15 years, from the U.S., all the way throughout Spain, Netherlands, U.K., Indonesia, Philippines, China, India, Australia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and now, France. The growth of radicalism has shown its ‘ugly face’ even more in Syria, Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan. Killing in their majority fellow Muslims (Mike Rogers, 2015)!
What can be said of extremism? A people that kills not only so called ‘infidels’, but Christians, Hindus, Agnostics, Buddhist, Atheist and follow Muslims. Those that kill are basing themselves on ignorance, social isolation—people who are usually insecure, not in sink with Western values, social realities or the modernized world and have an identity crisis. People whom use the words fear and the gun to drive a point!
What can be done to challenge extremism? The greater examples given in history to stop these savage-ignorant idiots were people like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. (We Shall Overcome), Theo van Gogh (killed by a Muslim extremist in 2004) and the latest example were the staff members of Charlie Hebdo and the murdered police Officer, Ahmed.
Terrorist can scare us, but they cannot control us! They cannot win! They already lost, now the extremist have isolated themselves even further, by sacrificing great people and converting them into the grandest of martyrs! Charlie’s cartoonists and journalists demonstrated with the basic use of the pencil the best method of peaceful expression; which is the basic ideal that gives for all liberty for self-expression. To be given the undeniable right and courage to disagree with people whom wrongly desire to give the world an “Imperial Religious Order”. A small minority that should never be allowed to win! This will not perpetuate throughout the world, as it was well expressed by a news interviewee in France.
In our societies we choose to live amongst those with an open-mind, without the imposed limitations of a religious-extremist order.
While we all condemn the terrorist, we all condone and wish behave better than those whom try to force a belief system down our throats. Terrorist organizations that mistreat the rights of women, keep females uneducated, abuses children, influences wrongly the young to commit suicide attacks and uses violence over petty insults. These brutes cannot prosper!
We live not only for today, but for tomorrow…
More people like the members of Charlie Hebdo are needed in every corner of the earth to face these ignorant values. And learning from these sad lessons, never to indulge into the far-right, but allow people who can satirize, ridicule in a funny way without going to blows! In the end, the greatest form of flattery is to be joked about and yes, we can get angry and never [as it is anathema] recur to killing! And we cannot remain silent (Cooper, 2015), because they would be killing the victims twice!
Sad start to a New Year’s and extremist would prefer that nobody would criticize them and never see the like of cartoons showing them in their truest form of mindless violence. And in drawing funny cartoon depictions… What can be said? Let it be more!
Then, we are here…
A dream to see in the future would be to involve more Muslim communities into Western-culture, values and offer those that want to integrate into the politics. Further, the Muslim world living in Europe and North America has to open-up and stop isolating themselves.
On the other hand, terrorist can never win with their tactics and radical beliefs.
Let there be more brave people like those mentioned above!
