THERE were 3,423 fires in Hangzhou in the first half of this year, resulting in nine people dead and six injured, Hangzhou fire control authorities said. A total of 54,700 square meters of area was ruined, and the direct economic loss amounted to 14.79 million yuan (US$2.4 million).
The fires mainly broke out in Xiaoshan, Yuhang, Jianggan and Xihu districts, and the peak time was between 2pm and 8pm. The major cause was careless use of electricity and fire.
