People are mostly reminded of the West Lake speaking of Hangzhou and the city is “the most memorable place in the South Yangtze River region,” according to a poem of Bai Juyi (772-846). Now, tourists are both amazed by the city’s natural landscape and its characteristic foods alike.
“The Most Favorite Foods” of city’s people were selected on May 29 and the dishes that signed for the activity all contain the most abundant local cuisine cultures.
The city’s foods not only excel in flavors, but also tell the stories of Hangzhou as a historic, poetic and romantic oriental city. Almost every dish is quintessentially the reflection of the city’s history and culture.
With the Chinese name of Li Ming, a Nigerian student in Hangzhou was invited to select the dishes. “I’ve tasted many foods of the city but I don’t know their names exactly, and today I had most of them and compared to Hunan foods, Hangzhou foods are pleasantly much lighter,” he noted, “I love the tea-scented fish today, because the fish is tender and very tasty”
Mr. Hu favored Hangzhou Spiced Duck most, “it is really something Hangzhou.” Speaking of “Hangzhou memories,” Hu said “Longjing Tea with Prawns and West Lake in Vinegar Gravy are the most authentic dishes and they can best represent the city’s taste.”
“Hangzhou should cook its own dishes with special characteristics,” said Hu Zhongying, a senior cooking master title winner in China and one of the most famous chefs in Hangzhou.
Judging from a series of standards including colors, aromas, flavors, form, innovation and price, the activity finally selected ten “Most Favorable Dishes” and ten “Most Favorable Meal Sets”.
