A truck loaded with books, clothes and stationery donated by students of five Hangzhou schools set off yesterday to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China.
The students donated 1,200 kilograms of books, 1,850 kilograms of clothes and 10 boxes of stationery for their peers in a primary school in Hetian Prefecture, Xinjiang, before they began their winter vacation last week.
A company specialized in freight transportation between Hangzhou and Xinjiang offered delivery service which will take 10 days over a distance of 6,000 kilometers.
“I’m deeply moved by action of Hangzhou students. We will invite them and their parents to our school to join a donation ceremony, which will be broadcast by Xinjiang Satellite TV,” said Wang Yong, the headmaster of Pishan Farm No. 3 Primary School in a phone interview.
