Cisco China held a press conference on Monday to announce its plan to locate the company’s headquarters in Hangzhou and its smart city strategies. This is the first Fortune 500 company that has decided to locate its headquarters in the city.
Hangzhou has rich education resources such as Zhejiang University and excellent local partners, said Chuck Robbins, senior vice president of Worldwide Field Operations for Cisco. Meanwhile, the cooperation with the city will consolidate the basis Cisco has established in the exploration of new frontiers.
Cisco will also regard the cooperation with local businesses in Hangzhou and improve the R&D capacity of local enterprises as an important task, Robbins noted.
City Cloud Technology is a Cisco-backed local tech start-up in China. The company is also a partner of Cisco and the important platform for Cisco to implement its smart interconnected city strategy. In May 2013, Hangzhou Municipal Government, Cisco and City Cloud Technology (Hong Kong) signed a MoU to build “Cisco Cloud Industry Aggregation Zone.”
Cisco plans to cooperate with Shangcheng District to pilot its “smart & interconnected city” service and build Hangzhou into an exemplary smart city in China in order to facilitate the industrial upgrading of the city. “Cisco wishes to contribute to the development of Hangzhou and wishes that smart Internet becomes the pillar industry of the city,” Robbins added.
