Hangzhou will fully carry out the new birth policy which allows couples to have two children if one of them is an only child, local health and family planning commission said yesterday.
A survey in the city found that about 66 percent of the 125,000 couples eligible to have a second child under the new policy plan to do so.
Couples in Xiaoshan and Yuhang districts are most longing for a second child.
A baby boom that results from the new policy is expected in 2014 when the city will see nearly 80,000 new born babies a year, according to the commission.
