Five white dolphins in the Hangzhou Polar Ocean Park were given a thorough health check-up after they performed overtime during the 7-day Chinese New Year holiday.
It was the first New Year holiday the white dolphins spent in Hangzhou and they performed four to five times a day, one or two times more than usual, during China’s biggest holiday. As a result, their trainers had to feed them more food.
After the holiday, the park found the animals were in low mood and decided to examine their digestive and respiratory systems.
The dolphins have been trained to accept the insertion of a 2.7-meter-long gastroscope, tailor-made for dolphins by a Shanghai factory.
