AUTHENTIC: Five Sen5es at The Westin KL is offeringhas prepared sumptuous sets of lunch and dinner until Sunday
KUALA LUMPUR: COME and savour authentic Hangzhou cuisine at the Five Sen5es restaurant in The Westin Kuala Lumpur, where celebrated Chef Kong Khai Meng and his culinary team have prepared a special menu to suit the Malaysian palate.
The promotion is available until Sunday.
With the use of fine local and fresh ingredients, the restaurant is offering sets of lunch and dinner including a la carte.
Most of the dishes have been re-invented creatively with a modern twist of flavours.
For a recent media review, Kong demonstrated his skills by cooking some of the signature dishes from the menu.
Among them are sautéed Longjing tea river shrimps in duo style, wok-seared beef tenderloin with Zhejiang Lin-An walnuts, sautéed shrimps with wild mountain walnuts, chilled goose liver and charcoal grilled sour plum jelly.
Other items include bamboo shoots with sakura shrimp flakes, escalope of cod and soy cured eggplant, West Lake sweet and sour aged-vinegar, aged-wine chicken mousse consommé, classic Hangzhou-style crab meat flakes and roe cooked in orange and sun dried pickled mustard parcel in tofu roulade.
There is also a wide selection of desserts, such as Longjing and mocha tea glutinous rice roulade with osmanthus ice cream, fermented glutinous rice with peach gum and rice dumpling, aromatic trio flower tea sundae and bird’s nest with hasma and ginger-cured mango sago.
Kong, who has more than 20 years’ experience in Southeast Asian cooking, said he loves to seek out new seasonal ingredients by visiting other restaurants and consulting the latest cookbooks to see what’s new.
“I love to travel and whenever I have the time I would go to countries that I have not been before and begin to explore the culture as well as the food.
“I also love to read because I believe by reading good books you will gain creative ideas for your cooking.
“Many think cooking is difficult and messy but if you’re passionate about it then everything falls easy to your hands,” he said. Kong works at The Dragon Hangzhou restaurant in China as the executive Chinese chef.
He said the dragon chef set lunch is priced at RM98++ per person while the dinner set is priced at RM168++ per person.
The a la carte Simply Dim Sum menu is also available during lunch hours.
