The Hangzhou Public Security Bureau denied the online rumor that vehicles parked within 50 meters of a bus stop will be fined up to 1,000 yuan (US$160). It made a statement yesterday on its official Weibo blog.
The bureau said vehicles parked too close to a bus stop or a road crossing will be towed away and the driver will be fined 150 yuan, instead of 1,000 yuan.
The rumor spread apace via WeChat, China’s biggest instant messaging platform, and was reported in Shanghai, Hefei and Zhengzhou.
But, vehicles parked near a bus stop in the South China city of Shenzhen will incur a fine of up to 1,000 yuan and even 2,000 yuan for severely holding up traffic, a media report said.
