Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, has many traditions which can be experienced here. Tangqi Old Street塘栖老街 in Yuhang District, for example, is the place to enjoy flaky candy, sesame cake, zongzi and other seasonal snacks.
Longmen Old Town龙门古镇 in Fuyang District will hold a lantern show from February 20 to 25. Visitors can also watch lion dance there. Big lions are played by two men; small lions are each performed by one man.
Many people began to pound cooked glutinous rice into sticky cake for the holiday. Rice wine will flow at reunion dinners throughout New Year holiday which ends with the Lantern Festival on February 25.
The Wushan Temple Fair吴山庙会 is another place to soak up the festival spirit. People swarm in the bazaar-like fair to buy and eat all kinds of snacks from marshmallow to barley sugar, wonton and crispy rice cakes.
