Recently Hongkong Bai Xian Education Foudnation and Bai Xian Asia Institute made a donation of 2.16 million dollars to Zhejiang University to establish “Future Asian Leader Scholarship Project”.
The project has been seeking cooperation with six universities in Asia, including Zhejiang University, Beijing University, Hongkong University of Science and Technology, Kyoto University, Waseda University and Hitotsubashi University. Zhejiang University was the first to sign the agreement.
In accordance with the donation agreement, the School of Public Affairs, Zhejiang University is going to run “Future Asian Leader – Master’s Program of Public Administration” in the following three years, aiming at training public sector leaders with thorough understanding of contemporary governmental system, economic & social development as well as practical skills of public affairs administration.
The program plans to recruit 15 students that are academically outstanding, honest and open-minded with great sense of duty, passion and leadership potential each year out of the top university graduates in Asia, and provide them with full scholarship. Meanwhile another 15 seats will be available for the outstanding graduates from other renowned universities in China. The 30 students will together receive a two-year postgraduate education in public administration.
“Two of our majors were chosen by Mr. Cao Qiyong: Chinese studies and Public Administration,” said Jin Haiyan, director of the Development and Liaison Office, Zhejiang University. After rounds of discussion, we made the final decision that the Future Asian Leader Scholarship Project should be set up in the School of Public Affairs for the purpose of cultivating public management talents with global vision. “All the students will study and live in the newly-built Asia Youth Exchange Center,” he added.
