Hangzhou ranks 30th among the world’s most congested cities, according to a survey conducted in August in 146 cities worldwide. But, Hangzhou’s traffic condition will soon improve with Zizhi Tunnel, Jiubao Bridge and Donghu Expressway put to use in the first half of this year.
It will take just 15 minutes to drive from Jihong Road in the city’s northwest to Zhijiang Road in the city’s southwest after Zizhi Tunnel is opened to traffic. The 14.4-kilometer tunnel connects Zijingang Road and Zhipu Road. Both are in renovation.
The elevated Shixiang Road will be built in June and people can travel from the north of Hangzhou to Qianjiang New Town east of the Qiantang River in 15 minutes without any red lights.
Jiubao Bridge and the second phase of Donghu Expressway will cut the trip from Linping to Xiaoshan International Airport to just 25 minutes and shorten the drive from Xiaoshan to Xiasha to 30 minutes.
