Hot and stuffy weather with occasional rains will reign the weeks before the annual “plum rain” season, local forecasters said.
Hangzhou will be cloudy and sunny today to Thursday with the mercury going from 31 degrees Celsius today to 34 degrees on Thursday. Friday will have rain and the temperature will drop slightly.
The past weekend was stuffy with a humidity level of over 70 percent. The humid weather will continue in coming weeks until the “plum rain” season is over.
The rainy season in East China is so named because it coincides with the ripening of plums. It usually occurs from June 15 to July 7, but its length varied from 77 days to just three days, according to records.
Visitors are warned of taking shelter under a tall tree during a thunderstorm when they climb local mountains.
