Typhoon Chan-Hom moved away from Zhejiang Province yesterday after causing direct economic losses of 5.86 billion yuan (US$941 million), provincial officials said.
More than 1.91 million people in the province were affected by the typhoon. About 1.12 million people were evacuated. The cities of Ningbo, Taizhou and Zhoushan were badly hit with 931 houses destroyed and 174,800 hectares of farmland flooded. No death has been reported so far.
The province is now carrying out post-typhoon reconstruction and repair, while meteorologists warned of another typhoon, Nangka, as it is moving in the western Pacific towards northeast but its route is not toward Zhejiang.
