A strong cold front from Siberia might bring severe temperature drop and sleet to Hangzhou and its surrounding area in the mid of next week, weather forecasters said.
The cold wave from next Wednesday till weekend might hit the lowest temperature to around the freezing point along the Yangtze River, including Wuhan, Nanjing and Shanghai. Snowfall might also appear in Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Shandong and Henan provinces.
Prior to that, the overcast and rainy skies are likely to last for at least four days, with little change in temperatures. The mercury will stay between 13 and 17 degrees Celsius from today to Sunday.
According to the Hangzhou Meteorological Bureau, the city’s rainfall during the period of November 7 to 17 was much higher than the same period in previous years.
The ongoing conditions can be attributed to this year’s weaker cold fronts and the more frequent collision of warm and cold airs, as well as the contribution of some moisture.
Sunday is marked by the solar term Xiaoxue, or light snow, indicating the snow season will begin.
