The city is finally cooling with the maximum temperature falling one degree Celsius each day from today to about 36 degrees this weekend, local forecasters said.
Yesterday’s highest reading was 39.2 degrees Celsius recorded at 4pm, falling below 40 for the first time since August 5.
So far this year, Hangzhou has recorded 14 days with a maximum temperature above 40 degrees.
Today’s high will be 39 degrees Celsius, drop to 38 degrees tomorrow and further drop to around 36 degrees at the weekend, thanks to the weakening of a subtropical high in East China.
Only five cities in Zhejiang Province recorded a high temperature of over 40 degrees yesterday. It was 41 degrees in Fuyang, which was followed by Tonglu, Xinchang, Xiaoshan and Anji.
There has been a significant drop in temperature since Monday when 16 cities in the province broiled in heat of over 40 degrees Celsius.
