The mercury shot up to 35.6 degrees Celsius yesterday, making it the hottest May 14 in history, the Hangzhou Meteorological Bureau said.
The previous record was set on May 14, 1980 when the temperature hit 34.1 degrees.
But the hot spell is coming to an end today as heavy rains will start tonight and bring a big fall in temperature tomorrow. Today’s maximum temperature is 28 degrees.
Heavy showers are expected tomorrow morning but will grow small in the afternoon. The rain won’t stop until Friday and the maximum temperature will drop to 25 degrees Celsius.
