A security guard, right, and spectators react when the Qiantang River tidal bore floods over Zhijiang Road in Jiuxi area in the southwest of the city yesterday. At Jianshan the tidal bore smashed a wave wall of over 30 meters long and left more than 20 stone slates weighing hundreds of kilograms on the bank of the river. Several scenic spots along the Qiantang River were closed to ensure safety and visitors are advised to avoid the area as the tidal bore enters the peak time in a year and Typhoon Dujuan made the bore even fiercer. At Xiaoshan the tidal bore reached 7.2 meters high yesterday afternoon, the highest in recent years.
