Hangzhou is set to be hit by strong gales and heavy showers over the coming days as a result of Typhoon Dujuan, which is forecast to make landfall in southeast China’s Fujian Province tomorrow.
The blustery conditions are likely to start this afternoon, Hangzhou Meteorological Bureau said yesterday.
The wet and windy conditions are set to remain until Wednesday, though the typhoon is predicted to weaken to a tropical depression after hitting Fujian, it said. Today’s temperature is set to range between 19 and 26 degrees Celsius.
According to Taiwan’s meteorological agency, Dujuan was centered about 600 kilometers east-southeast of the Hualien County as of yesterday afternoon and was moving toward the island at 14kph.
The increased rainfall from the typhoon coincides with the river tide season, which raises the risk of flooding, the bureau said.
People watching tidal bore beside the Qiantang River are reminded to avoid dangerous sections as the tidal bore is likely to be much fiercer than usual due to the typhoon.
