The hot spell that has been scorching the region with temperatures over 35 degrees Celsius for over one week will abate this weekend as typhoon Soulik brings much-desired showers, weather forecasters said.
The typhoon is now spinning toward China’s southeastern coast and part of Zhejiang Province and will bring rains and a drop in temperature by two degrees.
Soulik began to form on July 7 and strengthened into a super typhoon by 2pm yesterday and is gathering force. It is forecast to land on Taiwan on Friday and make a second landfall on the coast of Fujian or Zhejiang provinces.
Areas in its path will have strong winds and heavy downpours.
